Connect Codex

Use Taste from Codex desktop, the CLI, or an IDE connected on the same host.

Before you connect

Sign in to the Taste account that holds your references. Start with a small collection you can recognize when the connection succeeds. Choose the setup below for the client you use.

Connect and authorize

Add the server, then finish the Taste sign-in and consent flow. Merely saving the server URL does not mean its tools loaded successfully.

Codex / ChatGPT desktop

Server URL

  1. Open Settings → MCP servers → Add server in the desktop app.
  2. Name the server taste, choose Streamable HTTP, and paste https://mcp.buildwithtaste.com/mcp. Save and select Restart.
  3. Select Authenticate for the Taste server and complete the Taste sign-in and consent screen.
  4. Open /mcp in the composer to check the connection, then ask: “Use the taste MCP server to read my Taste library and list its available collections. Report any connection error instead of using local files.”

Setup command

codex mcp add taste --url https://mcp.buildwithtaste.com/mcp

  1. Add the server in Terminal: codex mcp add taste --url https://mcp.buildwithtaste.com/mcp
  2. Sign in to Taste in your browser: codex mcp login taste
  3. Start a new Codex session, check /mcp, and ask: “Use the taste MCP server to read my Taste library and list its available collections. Report any connection error instead of using local files.”

Verify the connection

Try this prompt

Use the Taste MCP to list my collections and their item counts. Do not substitute a local skill file. Report any tool, authentication, or startup error exactly.

What success looks like

The client returns your actual collections, or a valid empty result if you have not created any. It does not guess from local files.

Give it a focused first task

Ask the agent to find one collection, inspect its images and annotations, and explain the direction before it edits your project. If it cannot view images in this client, have it identify that limitation.

Try this prompt

Find my “Onboarding” collection in Taste. Inspect the available images and my notes. Explain what should influence this project and what should not be copied. Preserve our existing components. Tell me if any context is unavailable.

If the tools do not appear

Check the client’s MCP status and the exact error. Finish authentication if required, restart or refresh the client’s tools, and try the verification again. A configured entry alone is not a successful connection.
