Capture Studio for Mac
Make beautiful product demos.
The free screen recorder for Mac that makes your product look its best.
Save a quick clip, or turn it into a polished demo with smooth zooms, camera overlays, titles and sound.
100% free to record, edit and export.
macOS 15 or later
Keep the important details in focus.
Zoom in on the part you’re explaining, follow the cursor, then ease back out to the whole screen.
Zooms that follow
Follow the action, hold a fixed area, or move between two points you choose.
Classic or loupe
A full zoom, or a glass loupe that magnifies one detail and keeps the context.
On the moment
Eased or instant, and able to arrive at full zoom just as the moment begins.
A cursor you direct
Four styles, adjustable size, smoother motion, click rings or ripples, and hiding when still.
Say it on screen.
A title when it helps, a logo where it belongs, and a mask over anything private.
Timed text
Four system typefaces, three weights, alignment and color, trimmed on its own timeline row.
Your logo
PNG with transparency, JPEG or HEIC, resized from any corner.
Placed precisely
Snapping guides, nine presets and safe margins that adapt to every size.
Masks
Cover anything private before you share. Masks also apply to the clean screen copy.
Record your iPhone, too.
Give your mobile app the same polish as your Mac demos.
- Plug in and record
- Connect your iPhone or iPad with a cable. Your recording opens on a vertical canvas.
- Frame it your way
- Choose a device, a finish and a background that work with your app.
Also great for ads, Reels and TikToks.
One edit. Every feed.
Wide, square and vertical versions export together, each with its own framing.
A social pack in one pass
Choose Wide, Square and Vertical, and each file lands in one new folder.
Framing per size
Fit or fill, scale and position the recording and camera separately for each size.
One edit underneath
Cuts, sound, crops, masks and zoom timing stay shared, so nothing drifts.
MP4 or GIF
MP4 with sound, or a silent GIF loop for docs and chats.
Built for the whole demo.
Your camera, your voice, and the small edits that make a recording feel finished.
Camera on its own track
Screen and camera, side by side, camera only or screen only, set clip by clip.
Record it later
Record a camera take or a voiceover while the clip plays, then keep it or try again.
Presenter styling
Rounded, circle, square or pill, sized and placed where it helps, mirrored or not.
Backgrounds and frames
Wallpapers, gradients, colors or your own image, or a Mac window or browser frame.
Cut and pace
Split, trim, reorder and change speed, with undo for every step.
Crop the source
Trim away browser chrome or a busy edge, never touching the original.
Your drafts stay on your Mac.
Recording, editing and exporting never need an upload. Posting is a separate step.

Posting is optional. Cloud design analysis follows your plan’s limits; Motion playback and detailed breakdowns through MCP require Pro. Narration in your videos isn’t transcribed or analyzed.
Questions, answered.
Is Capture Studio free?
Yes. Recording, editing and exporting on your Mac are free in Taste for Mac. Posting to Taste is optional and uses your Taste account; cloud design analysis follows your plan’s limits.
Which Macs does it run on?
Taste for Mac runs on macOS 15 Sequoia or later, on Apple silicon and Intel.
Can I record my iPhone or iPad?
Yes. Connect it with a cable, unlock it and tap Trust if it asks, then choose it as your source. Portrait recordings open on a 9:16 canvas.
Do I need a camera or microphone?
No. Both are optional and saved as separate tracks. You can also record a camera take or a voiceover later while your clip plays, then keep it or try again.
Where do my recordings go?
Into an editable draft on your Mac that saves as you work, with your original files kept as recorded. Exports go to the folder you choose. Nothing is uploaded unless you post to Taste, and originals upload only if you choose private backup.
Do cursor controls work on every video?
They work on Mac recordings made in Capture Studio, which keep the pointer separate from the picture. A cursor that is already part of a video stays as it was recorded.
What can I export?
MP4 or GIF. One edit can export Wide 16:9, Square 1:1 and Vertical 9:16 together, and your main canvas can also be Original, 4:3, 4:5 or 3:4.
Does Taste transcribe my narration?
No. Ordinary narration in your videos isn’t transcribed or analyzed. Design analysis uses selected screen frames. To explain your intent, add a note; separate Taste Interviews inform your Design Judgment profile.
How does this help my AI tools?
Ask a connected agent to use Taste through MCP, and it can read your available references, notes and saved profile as context. Motion playback and detailed breakdowns through MCP require Pro, and availability depends on the client. Context informs the tool; it doesn’t guarantee the result.
