Best ChatGPT design tools: references, diagrams and visual assets

Compare Taste, Figma and Canva for different design jobs in ChatGPT, with a practical checklist for choosing the right connection.

Choose the output before the app

The best ChatGPT design tool is the one that produces the next artifact your project needs. Taste is useful for retrieving saved inspiration and the notes behind your design choices. Figma’s documented ChatGPT integration supports FigJam diagrams and Figma Slides. Canva supports creating designs through its AI connection, with a handoff to its editor. Those are different jobs, even when they all start with a chat prompt.

For an app redesign, you may need a reference brief before you need a presentation. For a stakeholder review, a diagram may explain the proposed flow more clearly than another screen. For a launch, you may need a promotional graphic with the correct dimensions. Name that output before connecting several tools.

A concrete workflow for a booking product

Suppose you are preparing a booking app for a first customer conversation. Begin with the journey: choose a service, choose a time, enter contact information and receive confirmation. A FigJam diagram can make those steps easy to discuss. It should include the branch where there are no appointments available.

Next, select references for the interface itself. In Taste, keep the examples that help decide how services are compared and how dates are presented. Add notes identifying the relevant details. Give that context to the tool implementing the app. When you need a launch visual, use an appropriate design editor and replace placeholder imagery and copy with your actual product material.

Verify what the connection can do

An app being connected does not mean every capability in the vendor’s desktop product is available inside ChatGPT. Figma’s ChatGPT documentation describes FigJam and Slides; its broader MCP documentation describes additional workflows for supported clients. Check the surface you are actually using. Canva also distinguishes supported actions and account requirements.

Ask the connected app to retrieve or create one small, recognizable artifact. Open the result in its destination editor and confirm you can continue working on it. If the answer contains only a description, do not assume a file was created.

  1. Name the required output and where it must be editable.
  2. Check the official integration documentation and your account’s available actions.
  3. Try one small task before committing the project to the workflow.
  4. Verify the actual result and retain the sources used to create it.

How to evaluate this shortlist

Taste publishes this comparison and is included in it. The shortlist is organized by the capabilities described in the linked documentation, reviewed October 29, 2026. It is not a performance benchmark, and it does not imply that these are the only design apps available.

For UI implementation, also ask how the decisions will reach the codebase. A diagram, reference collection or visual asset can guide the work, but none proves that the resulting screen handles keyboard input, failed requests or narrow layouts.
